Most of the people have asthma once in their lives especially when they were a child. Some passed this phase but there are also others who still suffer the harsh reality of having asthma. Some asthma attacks can be relieved by just letting the person relax but there are some who requires treatment already.

Before talking about the treatments about asthma, we must tackle the subject about asthma first. Asthma is a constant inflammatory disease in the airways causing narrowing and swelling of the bronchial tubes. Symptoms include wheezing, chest tightness, coughing, and shortness of breath. In every people, asthma may be triggered differently. For some, asthma can be triggered by stress, emotions, environment and many more.

There are two types of asthma, allergic and non-allergic asthma. Allergic asthma usually takes course early in childhood and from the name itself, it is caused by an allergy. The allergy may be due to environmental factors or a family history of allergies. Most of the children who experienced allergic asthma may surpass this stage but the disease may reappear later during adulthood. The other kind of asthma is non-allergic asthma, it develops after the age of 30 and follows after a history of respiratory infection.

Among the treatments for asthma, inhaled corticosteroids are one of those proven to be effective. Corticosteroid helps people with asthma because it is an anti-inflammatory, in which it decreases the inflammation in the airways and also the mucus production in the bronchial tubes thus allowing a person to breathe normally. One advantage for using inhaled corticosteroids is that only small amount is needed to give relief to the patient hence preventing the side effects of the medicine to the bones unlike when using the oral form of the drug. Inhaled corticosteroid is used for treating long term asthma because it is more convenient and it can be used every day without no detrimental side effects.
